One of my best friends in childhood, his dad was from Kansas. He didn't talk much. But he could say "Huh" about eleventy 'leven ways. I reckon this would have caused a pretty heartfelt one. I'm glad y'all didn't get any worse, or closer. Being near things like that evokes a feeling of awe. And terror. Might make you appreciate things more, or scar you for life. Ain't no way of telling, 'til it happens. Sorry to hear things have been difficult. Glad you're not alone with it. Hope things get better soon.

Maybe I should have known, but I had no idea you live in Andover. I grew up in Wichita (HS East ‘68, Friends U ‘72). Flatland.

We sort of settled here accidentally. Spent most of my childhood in Oklahoma. But my sister and her husband moved here for his job, so my parents moved here to be close to the grandkids. I was living out east and used my folks' place as home base as I was flying back and forth to Japan. Unfortunately, all I know about Friends is that it has a beautiful campus. My niece will be going to WSU in the fall.
