Rick, this was a great article. I've read it three times now because I wanted to fully assimilate it and see if I disagreed with any of it. Your thinking is sound. I think you're onto something here. There's potential for a fictional story that serves as a metaphor to these ideas if you want to chase it.
When you say 'simulation' are you talking about the people who live in their screens or is that a reference to simulation theory? I think it's the first, but I wanted to ask just to be certain.
It is not simulation theory. The two are not related. Simulation theory could be correct, in which case the simulation would be a simulation within THE simulation, if that makes sense.
I’m intentionally vague on what the simulation is in this context. It doesn’t exist independently of those who collectively create it, but it’s not simply the mass of them either. It’s the dynamic, stochastic interaction of them plus the thing they create.
I should add, although I did come up with it on my own, @Taegan MacLean pointed me to another article that in turn referenced a book that came out several years ago saying something the same/similar, so I definitely can’t take credit for it.
Once again, excellent commentary! Congratulations to you and your wife on an upcoming birth! I just had twins who graduated - I'm 60 now. Your fears and concerns resonated deeply with me.
Well, damn.
It is rare to read such sound reasoning.
It's even rarer to hear back! Thank you for saying so.

Thank you. We're excited! Congrats on the graduations. I'm sure they're off to a good start.
